Darren Criss Birthday book Project is a GO!

Calling all Darren Criss fans! Your fandom needs you!

Remember a few days ago I mentioned the possibility of a Birthday Book project? Well I’ve decided to kick it into action! I’d like to thank the people who sent notes, asks, reblogged and sent emails! I know I’m not particularly well known here, so I had low expectations for how much response I’d get, but if I hadn’t gotten some positive responses, this little rocket ship would never have gotten off the ground. So you guys are ultimately responsible for getting this ship in the air, thank you!

I’m afraid it’s not too flashy, and we’ve got a long way to go, but operation DCBirthdayBook is officially a GO! Please help us promote it!

 • Chris: And my people on Mars.

 • I KNEW IT! Chris really did go to Pigfarts! You sneaky wizard you! Thought you could fool us, eh? Well the lion's out of the bag now, isn't it? (Pst, can I borrow your rocketship?)

Darren Birthday Book? Interested?

Not being able to do my usual digital drawings sucks, but it’s reminded me how nice it is to break out the old pencil and paper once in a while =3 When I get my wacom back, I’ve got a lot to catch up on. But in the mean time, I’ve been preoccupied with thinking about Darren’s Birthday and the DC UK Flashmob. The hard work of it’s primary organizer, Veronica, has inspired me a bit, and so I find myself considering the possibility of a Birthday Book. I think I’m capable of organising one if I can stir up enough interest. What do you think, would any of you guys want to join in a project like that?

For those not familiar with fan birthday books, there’s usually two types: Letter books, which are a collection of letters and birthday wishes printed as a one-off book, and art books, which are a collection of fanart birthday gifts in much the same manner. As an artist, I’m mainly thinking about an art book, but I’m not ruling out the possibility of a mix of the two. Darren Criss has a lot of very artistic fans, and I think we could easily fill a decent sized birthday book! But perhaps I’m being too ambitious… So this is just early days. Just thoughts right now, nothing concrete, nothing committed. At the moment, it’s just an idea. Is anyone interested in joining me in a Darren Criss birthday book? Send me an ask, or email me at hokutoneko (at) yahoo (dot) co (dot) uk if you think you might be interested. If I get enough interest, then we’ll see where we go from there.

Meanwhile, if you’re in the UK and you haven’t joined yet, get your asses over to the DC Flashmob UK, because let’s face it, that’s going to be far more awesome a birthday present than anything I could organise. Are you still here? Go, go, go!

You Need to Pay Attention to Michele Bachmann
I know a lot of us aren’t that political, and many haven’t been paying much attention to the Republicans clawing all over each other for the presidential nomination next year, but if you have a Twitter account or read the news you have probably heard of Michele Bachmann, the congresswoman from Minnesota who is quickly floating to the top of the short list of GOP bigots likely to face Barack Obama at the ballot box next year.
You know Bachmann—she’s the one who married her queeny husband Marcus (who runs a clinic that offers “ex-gay” therapy for self-hating homos) after both of them experienced a vision from God. Well, despite the fact that she is a religious extremist with virtually no record of accomplishments in congress besides forwarding her hateful moral agenda, she won the Iowa Straw Poll over the weekend, one of the first real litmus tests to determine who is a “top tier” candidate for the 2010 election.
Here’s the thing about Michele Bachmann: she is not Sarah Palin. She is smarter, she’s more highly regarded, she has a more drive and she has none of Palin’s political baggage. She’s also about twice as [scary].
Want to know just how Bachmann feels about you? Here’s what she said in 2004 re: the gays:
“It’s a very sad life. It’s part of Satan, I think, to say that this is ‘gay.’ It’s anything but ‘gay.’ It leads to the personal enslavement of individuals. Because if you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair, and personal enslavement. And that’s why this is so dangerous. We need to have profound compassion for people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders.”
Bachmann was faced with this gem as recently as this past weekend, when she appeared onMeet the Press after her Iowa victory, and she stood by it, adding stupidly, “I am not anyone’s judge.” In it, she displays her profound ignorance (or worse, her straight up denial of facts) by calling homosexuality a “dysfunction” and a “disorder”, despite the fact that the American Psychiatric Association declassified homosexuality as a disorder in 1973, with the American Psychological Association following suit a few years later.
We need to face a scary reality, guys. Barack Obama’s approval ratings have dropped below 40 percent, the lowest they have ever been. Meanwhile, Michelle Bachmann, even with her long history of documented bigotry, is well on her way to securing the nomination (with only Texas governor Rick Perry posing much of a threat now, and he’s about as bad as she is). Remember what happened in 2010, when the GOP took back the senate and the house? We need to face the real possibility that Michele Bachmann could be the next president.
She supports a federal ban on gay marriage. She has vowed to reinstate Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. She opposes ENDA, which would defend you from discrimination in the workplace. She thinks the love you share with your partner is Satanic, dysfunctional and sad. Under President Bachmann, you can expect the momentum toward full civil rights we have achieved over the past few years (with little thanks to President Obama, it’s true) to be rolled back. You’d see full Republican control of government, and the introduction and passage of who knows what kind of hateful legislation aimed and subjugating LGBT people even further.
You need to pay attention to Michele Bachmann in the coming months, as she calculates her way to the presidency. And you need to be terrified proactive and outspoken

Just so we’re all clear: the scariest thing about Michele Bachmann isn’t what’s listed above. It isn’t her inability to respect that LGBT rights are human rights, and it isn’t that a large portion of what she says makes absolutely no sense. It’s not any of her policies, and it’s not that she has a very real chance of winning the nomination. These are all terrifying things, but they’re not the most terrifying thing about Michele Bachmann.
The most terrifying thing about Michele Bachmann is that she is a member of the United States House of Representatives. The most terrifying thing about Michele Bachmann is that she’s already run for a high office, and she won. The most terrifying thing about Michele Bachmann is that there are people out there, in the media and on the streets, saying things like, “Oh, she can’t get elected,” and “Oh, she’d never win,” but guys, you guys, she ran for the United States House of Representative and she won. Don’t discount her. Don’t roll your eyes at her. Don’t dismiss her. This is a politician with ideals and beliefs that could be really harmful to any number of people—this is a successful politician with plans and policies that could seriously damage the United States. You don’t win a seat in a national assembly by wishing for it. Michele Bachmann is a real player in the upcoming primary, and she is a real threat. Do. Not. Assume. Otherwise.

Please pay attention to this and by pay attention, I don’t just mean “reblog this.” I mean do something. It’s again the time to get off of Facebook and get in your face. I don’t know about you, but I could not live in a country where this woman is given more power than she already has. Talk to people. If you’re of age, vote yourself.
I can’t be eloquent about this because it’s just too frightening to me.

Sometimes America scares me. In England, she would literally face a jail sentence of up to a maximum of 7 years for stirring up homophobic hate. (Not that we don’t have our own messed up problems to solves, but … this? Really?)

Be nice: HH Poll

((*EDIT* The heck? I corrected a spelling mistake and accidentally deleted everything I’d had under the ‘read more’. I’m going to very quickly write the gist of it up again but without the ‘read more’ since I obviously aren’t using it properly. Sorry if the rushed rewrite is less eloquent. ))

So this is about the derping surrounding the fact that Chris Colfer is owning the HH Hottest male under 25 poll here and the fact that some people are bitching that Chris doens’t belong in first place and are using insults to justify that opinion.

Read more:

—————————————————————-

1) This is a poll. Polls show what the majority of people believe. If the majority of people voted Chris Colfer into first place, that’s exactly where he belongs. It doens’t mean he -IS- the hottest male, but it means that the readers of that poll think he is, and that’s the point of he poll. Deal with it.

2)What you think is hot isn’t necessarily what another person thinks is hot.

-If you think everyone else has to share your taste in men, you have a problem.

-If you can’t accept everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and vote for who they want, you have a problem.

-If you deal with not getting what you want by insulting people, you have a problem.

3) ‘Hot’ isn’t defined solely by visual beauty. Attraction is based on more than just the physical. A persons actions, mannerisms, beliefs and principles, their personality and the way they handle the problems life throws their way - these play a huge part in what we see in a person. If you are judging Chris and your personal celeb crush solely on photos, you’re doing them an injustice.

4) The awkward moment when someone posts a photoshopped-to-hell studio photo of their fave celeb as an example of who they are and why you should like them. Not that I object to these photos, they do serve a purpose, and yes, these type pf photos exist for Chris too! But their goal is to find the best lighting, airbrush out as many ‘flaws’ as possible and to generally make your favourite person look less like themselves and more like a perfect studio model. If you like your person best when they’ve had everything that makes them unique removed, you might want to take a look at opinion 3 again.

5) Chris is something of a poster-boy for gay rights and anti bullying - his fight for those causes is part of why people admire him so much. When you call him a 'girl'and a ’cabbage patch kid’ you’re being a bully. It’s not cool. And I’m pretty sure your celb crush would not approve of what you are doin and saying in his name. If the only way you can make your celeb crush look good is by insulting other people, you’re doing a great diservice to your celeb.

I’d also like to add that this applies to everyone; I haven’t seen any Chris fans rudely insulting other celebs, but if they are then this applies to them too!

I conclude this babble post of unwanted opinions with a classic Darren quote:

Be nice

Single Ladies, Manchester (June 23rd, 2011) - Uploading because a lot of the SL videos are down now, and this was really the highest quality one of the entire tour, so for posterior…err…posterity.

This is not mine. (The video, I mean. But Kurt’s not mine, either.)

oh man

It’s really a shame we won’t see this in 3D.

——-

When it comes out in the UK, I’m hoping (unrealisticaly, I know) that for some reason, it’s included in our version. Well, a girl can dream! Honestly, why would they leave this out in the first place? Maybe it’ll be on the DvD instead =/ Then again, now I feel a bit luckier for getting to see it live in Manchester myself XD

I’ll be off to see Glee 3D at Birmingham Odeon with a bunch of other members of the DCUKST on August 22nd http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=210660782313491 So if you’re in the Midlands you might wanna come along and share the fun =D Might as well use this as an excuse to plug! =D

My third fashion design to get accepted by Chicstar! This is the prototype results. It could potentially go into production and be sold in the store, if it does well in the auction. But the auctions doing poorly, and I don’t fancy my chances. A lot of people don’t like what Chicstar have done with my design. Aside from ignoring the colour direction of either version I submtted, they’ve also turned it into a vest rather than a top, and made it entrirly open-bust. I still like it as a vest, but I think people are confused as to whether the white top underneath is actually a part of it or not. It’s not.

I do like the cut of it, especially at the back! And they’ve done a good job of the trimmings! But I feel in making it all black, and by putting it over a modern plain tanktop (It’d look so much better over a peasent/gypsy top!) they’ve kind of shot it’s chances. Still, if anyone is interested, the auction page to buy the one-of-a-kind prototype is here: http://www.chicstar.com/storefront/protoDetail.aspx?idProto=964 and it’s currently at a meager $8. The more interest it gets, the more likely I am to see them produce it! But yeah, I don’t feel this is going to be very lucky.

I had such high hopes for this one as well u_u I wish they’d gone with the tartan design too, I love me some tartan!

And I’ve gotta go now! See ya’ll later!
